Ashford & St Peters Hospital has a large Paediatric Unit with a Paediatric A&E as well as a level III Neonatal Unit. The St Peters Hospital is therefore to offer district general paediatric anaesthetic experience. During your paediatric module (3 months block) you have the opportunity to anaesthetise children for community dental surgery, ENT surgery, General - & Urology surgery, MRI, Ophthalmology, Trauma and General emergency work. The paediatric elective work tends to be Day cases or short stay. The children's age groups range from 12/12 months to 16 years of Age. Trainees are also involved in the Acute Pain management out of hours, as well as resuscitation of children in paediatric A & E Department and on the wards during they ICU module. You will be involved looking after PCA pumps and occasionally epidurals in children. There will be paediatric specific education, on educational half days and the opportunity to be involved in paediatric anaesthetic audits.
