Details of the Response
Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding Sub Arachnoid Haemorrhage.
The Trust’s General Manager for Emergency Services, Imaging & Endoscopy has responded as follows:
- What is the Trust’s policy regarding the initial management of patients with suspected Sub- Arachnoid Haemorrhage (SAH)?
We can confirm that the initial management of patients with suspected Sub-Arachnoid Haemorrhage is for a CT scan to be carried out.
- In what proportion of cases where a head CT scan has been performed to investigate suspected Sub- Arachnoid Haemorrhage (SAH) and a negative report obtained, has a lumbar puncture then been performed in the years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009?
Unfortunately, our clinical system does not hold data on lumbar punctures performed resulting from a negative report on a CT scan, and we are, therefore, unable to supply the requested details.
