Details of the Response
Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding on each occasion the maternity unit in the Trust was closed to new admissions because they had reached full capacity, or for any other reason, in the 2009 calendar year.
The Trust’s Maternity Department has responded:
The Trust does not close to new admissions and in 2009 no women were sent to other maternity units to give birth for this reason.
When under pressure due to staffing or bed pressures, the Trust invokes the escalation policy to restrict access on a case by case basis.
Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding how many times in 2009 the escalation policy was invoked and how many women were sent elsewhere as a result.
The escalation policy was invoked twice in 2009. No women were referred to other maternity units. |
