Details of the Request
Does the Trust currently provide in house laboratory testing for Clostridium difficile on stoll samples?
If not, is there an arrangment for samples to be processed elsewhere? eg another NHS Trust or private external laboratory?
Is testing for Clostridium difficile available 7 days a week in the Trust?
As at 21st April 2010 please provide the exact method of testing for Clostridium difficile used in the laboratory. If a commercial kit is used please state the name & eg Meridian Premier Toxins A/B Enzyme Immunoassay.
Please provide the Standard Operating Procedure used in the laboratory for testing of Clostridium difficile.
How many sample were submitted to the laboratory for testing of Clostridim difficile in 2008 (1st January 2008 to 31st December 2008), & how many of these tested positive?
How many sample were submitted to the laboratory for testing of Clostridium difficile in 2009 (1st January 2009 to 31st December 2009), & how many of these tested. |

Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding Clostridium difficile.
The Trust’s Pathology Services Manager has responded.
- Does the Trust currently provide in house laboratory testing for Clostridium difficile on stool samples? If not, is there an arrangement for samples to be processed elsewhere? eg another NHS Trust or private external laboratory?

- Is testing for Clostridium difficile available 7 days a week in the Trust?
Yes
- As at 21st April 2010 please provide the exact method of testing for Clostridium difficile used in the laboratory. If a commercial kit is used please state the name and manufacturer eg Meridian Premier Toxins A/B Enzyme Immunoassay.

2008: 2535 tested; 274 positive
- How many sample were submitted to the laboratory for testing of Clostridium difficile in 2009 (1st January 2009 to 31st December 2009), and how many of these tested positive?
2009: 2429 tested, 159 positive
