Details of the Response

Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding work experience placements for graduate nurses/doctors

The Trust’s Undergraduate Medical Education Manager has responded.
  1. I would like to know whether the hospital has any work experience placements for graduate nurses/doctors.

No, not specifically. We would consider any application for work experience, however, if a graduate doctor or nurse made an application for work experience, it would be considered under a different category such as work placement.

  2. If yes to question 1, I would like to know how long these have been running.

Work experience placements have been running for at least ten years.

  3. If yes to question 1, I would also like to know whether the nurses or doctors are paid any wage for their time or reimbursed for travel expenses at all.

No payment would be made, inclusive of travel costs.

  4. If yes to question 1, I would like to know how many nurses or doctors have taken up the scheme and roughly what level they are at - eg. recent graduates.

There is no specific ‘scheme’ in place, therefore the figure is zero.

  5. Finally, I would like to know whether the hospital has asked staff to work unpaid for any period of time to help ease budget constraints or reduce the risk of redundancies.

    No.

  6. Similarly I would like to know whether the hospital has asked staff to take any unpaid leave.

    No.
