Details of the Request
Does the hospital have policies in place preventing food such as fruit, chocolate or biscuits being brought onto hospital wards? If yes, what are these policies - for example are any foods banned from wards for hygiene reasons or to prevent the spread of disease?

Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding policies in place preventing food such as fruit, chocolate or biscuits being brought onto hospital wards.
The Trust’s Consultant Nurse, Infection Prevention & Control has responded as follows:

Does the hospital have policies in place preventing food such as fruit, chocolate or biscuits being brought onto hospital wards?
No.

If yes, what are these policies - for example are any foods banned from wards for hygiene reasons or to prevent the spread of disease?
N/A.

Does the hospital have polices in place preventing other items such as flowers or greeting cards being brought onto wards?
No. We encourage patient areas to be de-cluttered, including not having flowers and minimal greeting cards.

If so, what are the reasons for these policies being in place - hygiene, etc.
De-cluttering of areas facilitates correct cleaning practices.
