Details of the Request

Details of the Trust’s / Board’s own long term care and accommodation facilities (whether specialist wards, beds or separate facilities) [“the Facilities”] for
  1. older people; and
  2. younger adults with learning disabilities.

The number of
  1. older people; and
  2. younger adults with learning disabilities,
cared for in each of the Facilities during the financial year 6 April 2009 to 5 April 2010.

Please ensure that the information provided shows for how many weeks of the year each bed was occupied, or else give the total number of ‘service user weeks’ during the year.

The gross cost to the Trust / Board in 2009-10 of operating each of the Facilities, under the following headings:
  1. nursing staff costs;
  2. care staff costs:
  3. other staff costs:
  4. direct costs;
  5. indirect costs;
  6. cost of capital.

Details of the Response

Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding the Trust’s long term care and accommodation facilities for older and younger patients with learning disabilities.

The Trust currently has 2 Care of the Elderly wards for acute patients at St Peter’s Hospital, and 3 Care of the Elderly Rehab wards for patients requiring rehabilitation prior to discharge at Ashford Hospital. We also have 2 Ortho Geriatricians to support older patients with complex care needs.

A new position of a Learning Disabilities Specialist Nurse has just been appointed by the Trust.

Unfortunately, we currently do not hold the data requested on patients with learning disabilities and are in the process of developing methods of data collection.
