Details of the Request


  1. From 1997 - 2009 what are the nurse to patient ratios* for inpatient care at present? Please take average figures from across the hospital.
  2. What is the total inpatient capacity of all the hospitals for which the trust is responsible? Inpatient capacity means the number of available beds
  3. How many nurses are employed at all of the hospitals for which the trust is responsible? (This means wholetime nurses for example a nurse working 50 percent of normal working hours would count as 0.5)
  4. How many healthcare assistants / nursing auxiliaries / auxiliary nurses are there working at the hospital(s)?

Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding the following:
  1. For each of the hospitals the trust is responsible for, what are the nurse to patient ratios* for inpatient care at present?

    Please take average figures from across the hospital.

    What were they in 2009? Please give the figures for January 1, 2009, or if this is not possible on any date in the year they are available for.

    What were they in 2008?
    What were they in 2007?
    What were they in 2006?
    What were they in 2005?
    What were they in 2001?
    What were they in 1997?

    Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust staffing levels are monitored through nurse to bed ratios rather than nurse to patient ratios, so we are unable to answer this specific question
     
  2. What is the total inpatient capacity of all the hospitals for which the trust is responsible? Inpatient capacity means the number of available beds. Please exclude people who come in for appointments during the day – “outpatients”.
