Details of the Request
I am writing to request under FOI information relating to your Trusts procedures with dealing with alcohol related A&E attendances. I would appreciate information for the following 3 questions:
- Do you employ someone who is responsible for addressing alcohol in young people (under 18) who attend A&E e.g. Alcohol Nurse Specialist or Alcohol Liaison Nurse? Y/N
- Do you have an alcohol harm reduction strategy in place which provides support to young people (under 18) who attend A&E for alcohol-related conditions? Y/N, if yes, please provide details or enclose supplementary documents.
- Do you have an alcohol referral pathway from A&E to a young people's (under 18) specialist service e.g. substance misuse service? Y/N

Thank you for your request to Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust regarding the Trust’s procedures with deailing with alcohol related A&E attendances.

No.
- Do you have an alcohol harm reduction strategy in place which provides support to young people (under 18) who attended A&E for alcohol-related conditions? Y/N
If YES, please provide details or enclose supplementary documents
Yes. All children attending with alcohol related problems are highlighted to Social Services and are discussed at the weekly Safeguarding meeting.
- Do you have an alcohol referral pathway from A&E to a young people's (under 18s) specialist service i.e. substance misuse service? Y/N
We are currently in discussions with the Catch-22 charity about setting this up in early 2011.
