Major refurbishment of Ashford Outpatients Department
A £2.8 million refurbishment of the outpatients department at Ashford Hospital is now underway. The new department will provide a modern, comfortable and therapeutic environment, giving outpatients the best possible experience to support their care.
A welcoming and professional reception area
The new entrance lobby and reception will be modernised with glazed walls to allow more natural light to stream in, helping people to orientate themselves inside the building more easily. The department will be designed in a bright and colourful way, providing better internal signage to help visitors find their way around.
The café, now in the atrium, will be replaced by a new facility in the current reception area, which will be opened out with views outside. The atrium will be used for an improved waiting area, with more comfortable seating

Barrie Jones, General Manager, Specialist Medicine & Specialist Surgery, said: “I am delighted that the refurbishment is now underway. Our patients can look forward to a new, lighter more modern and welcoming environment when they come to Ashford outpatients in the future. While the works are underway, we will we will try to keep disruption to a minimum, but please bear with us while we make these improvements. This investment is a commitment to ensure Ashford Hospital remains central to the Trust’s future for all our patients, staff and the wider community.”
The programme of works will be carried out in five phases, of varying lengths. By carrying out the work in phases, the outpatients department will be able to deliver an uninterrupted service, although some clinics may move temporarily within outpatients while works are underway.
The refurbishment is expected to take a year to complete.
