Those of us working in healthcare were of course horrified by what we read in the Francis Report and empathise deeply with all the families involved. It is really important that we take the opportunity to consider what this report means for us as individual practitioners, and for this hospital Trust. At the same time, we need to assure the general public of the very good care and hard work that goes on every single day here in our hospitals.

Over the last few years we have seen a steady improvement in the quality of our care and treatment, but we must continue to pursue excellence for all of our patients, all of the time. This includes our work to collect and use patient feedback, to improve our responses to complaints and to increase the time we spend meeting patients and carers and talking about their experiences.

We want to be certain that anyone – whether staff, patients or their families – feels confident that they can raise concerns in a safe way and we will listen to them and take action. A reminder that patients and their relatives wishing to raise any concerns about their care at Ashford and St Peter’s are invited to contact the Trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01932 723553.
