Special chair aids recovery (March 2012)

The Phlebotomy Department at Ashford Hospital has been given a specially designed reclining chair to provide extra safety and comfort for patients who faint on giving blood.

The £2,000 chair, which was donated by the hospital’s League of Friends, allows the phlebotomist, in one swift, gentle movement, to place the patient in the best position for recovery. The chair will be used as routine in one bay and patients who are at risk of fainting will be directed there. The hospital’s Phlebotomy Manager, Jacqui Hough, who advised on the design of the chair, said: “I would like to thank the League of Friends for their very kind donation. Location	The pathology team at Ashford are based on the first floor above the restaurant. At St. Peter’s Hospital, the pathology department is located on level 1 of the outpatients block. There is an entrance from the car park or take the stairs from the main hall. The blood test department is on level 2 of the main building. Go to the main entrance and take the corridor to the right of pharmacy.
