Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals Visiting Restrictions - Important COVID-19 Update

To protect patients, visitors and staff visiting restrictions will remain in place to most areas at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals until further notice. Please click here for the answers to frequently asked questions on the visiting arrangements.

We have introduced these measures to reduce the number of people passing through the hospital sites and offer the maximum opportunity to reduce transmission of COVID-19.

In line with these measures, we have closed off access to our disabled car park and this space is temporarily being used for ambulances arriving at the Emergency Department.

We would like to thank all patients and visitors for their support, patience and co-operation. We appreciate these restrictions and measures will cause concern but our focus is to maintain patient safety and prevent spread of infection.

The use of face coverings when visiting hospital

People infected with COVID-19 can have very mild or no respiratory symptoms (asymptomatic) and can transmit the virus to others without being aware of it.

In line with recent recommendations from the World Health Organisation, we are introducing new measures at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals to keep visitors, patients, and staff safe.

From Monday, 15th June 2020 you will need to wear a face covering when you come to hospital as a visitor or outpatient.

Changes to the visiting arrangements for patients at the end-of-life

We have made some changes to the visiting arrangements for patients at the end-of-life. We are now able to accommodate one nominated visitor for up to one hour each day or two nominated visitors on alternate days during a patients stay. The patient must still be referred and reviewed by the Specialist Palliative Care Team prior to visiting, and visits must be pre-arranged each day with the ward nursing team.

Other visiting restrictions still remain in place and this is due to the risk CoVid continues to present within the community and our hospital and the associated threats of outbreaks with this.

If you have a family member who is a patient with special circumstances – such as learning difficulties, emotional and behavioural difficulties, dementia or severe confusion, who would really benefit from a visitor then please speak to the ward nursing team and they will advise further.

Many thanks for your continued support.

What you can do for us

We would like to ask for your help in limiting visitors wherever possible to no more than two at a time, and to only bring children who are under 10 years old where really necessary.

Please:

  • use the hand gel when entering and leaving the ward
  • respect other patients and keep noise to a minimum
  • no more than two visitors at the bedside and only bring young children if you really need to
  • help us minimise infection – don’t visit if you are unwell, use the chairs and please don’t sit on a patient’s bed
  • do not use mobile telephones, cameras etc in patient areas
  • only bring in essential items for patients to keep areas clutter free
  • do not bring in flowers for patients (but fruit, chocolate and biscuits are fine)
  • do not use physical violence, verbal aggression or threatening behaviour towards staff as this will not be tolerated
  • your relative or friend may have agreed for you to ask questions about their condition or treatment – if you wish to speak to a member of staff please ask at the start of your visit so this can be arranged.
