On 2nd June, on the anniversary of the Diamond Jubilee, it was announced that volunteers from Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for volunteer groups. The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is given for outstanding achievement to groups of volunteers who regularly devote their time, skills and energy for the benefit of others. This is a prestigious national honour. Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals’ volunteers were nominated by members of the local community and supported by Jonathan Lord MP for Woking who said: “Our volunteers play an important role supporting Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals, serving our community, and I am very pleased to have supported this nomination for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – an award that recognises, supports and celebrates our volunteers.” Volunteer’s Manager at the Trust, Julie Addision, said: “Our volunteers are truly exceptional, a wonderful group of people of whom the Trust is very proud and grateful. They are passionate and committed to the needs of their community while they are in our care. And the caring manner in which they help support our patients and visitors is fantastic. I am absolutely thrilled for them to receive this award.” Andrew Liles, Chief Executive, added: “It is a great pleasure to celebrate our volunteers’ efforts with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. We provide a full range of services for our local population and our vision is to be one of the best healthcare trusts in the country – our ‘award winning’ volunteers form an important part of this vision and in our hospitals’ success. This award is very well deserved.” As winners of the award the group will receive a certificate signed by The Queen and a commemorative piece of crystal for display at the hospital. The award will be presented on behalf of The Queen by the Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey. Julie adds: “We are always looking for more volunteers from all backgrounds and cultures, so if you would like to join our award winning team we would love to hear from you.
