You may not be a champion sprinter or distance runner but can you even take a brisk walk without getting out of breath? Wednesday, June 27 is World Spirometry Day which, in the run-up to the Olympics, is aimed at raising awareness of good lung health and demonstrating the importance of sport and other exercise for healthy lungs. Respiratory physiotherapists and nurses at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey, will be in the hospital’s main foyer between noon and 6.30pm that day offering people the chance to test the condition of their own lungs. Volunteers from the British Lung Foundation and Age Concern will also be there to offer support and advice. Taster sessions over the lunch period will demonstrate to patients and staff how they can safely and effectively exercise their lungs. |
