Patient records at St Peter’s Hospital are kept accurately and are fit for purpose according to a report published today [9th October] by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This report follows a recent visit to St Peter’s by the healthcare inspectors on 11th September, specifically targeted at record keeping. This latest inspection means that the hospital is fully compliant in all 16 quality standards set by the Commission. The Trust’s Chief Nurse, Suzanne Rankin explains more: “This report means we now have a clean bill of health from the Care Quality Commission, which is really good news for our patients and the Trust. Following an unannounced visit by the CQC last December, despite acknowledging much good work, several concerns were raised which we addressed quickly with a detailed action plan. These concerns focused on the use of our Day Surgery Unit to accommodate patients overnight (which we stopped doing in January) and on certain elements of training and support for our staff. A return visit last May gave us the green light for all the areas they inspected with one outstanding concern still noted for record keeping. Since then, staff across our hospitals – our nurses, therapists, doctors and clerical teams – have put a huge amount of effort into putting this right. This has included redrafting and simplifying a lot of our paperwork and making sure everyone is aware of their responsibilities regarding record keeping. Accurate notes and record keeping are a very important part of a patient’s care and treatment and I am proud of the way staff have worked so hard to put this right. Meeting the quality standards set by the Care Quality Commission is a vital part of our duty of care to patients; Monitor the regulator of Foundation Trusts has recently revised our governance rating from Amber-Red to Green, the top rating, which is a further reflection on the significant improvements we have made recently in both our hospitals on behalf of our patients.” |
