  • CT (Computerised Tomography) – provides computer generated cross-section scans of body organs from X rays
     
  • Nuclear Medicine – the use of small traces of radioactive substances to examine organ structure or destroy diseased cells 
     
  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) – creates density images based on the nuclear magnetic resonance of protons 
     
  • Ultrasound – uses high frequency sound waves to construct an image of internal organs or fetalgrowth 
     
  • Angiography – the use of a dye that is opaque to X rays injected into coronary arteries so that blood circulation can be studied 
     
  • Colour Doppler – an ultrasound alternative to the use of X rays to measure blood flow 
     
  • Dacrocystography – the use of a contrast medium to identify blockages in the nasolacrimaldrainage system (tear ducts or sinuses) 
     
  • Sialography – X ray of salivary glands 
     
  • Venography – used to visualize the veins in the leg through a X ray and contrast dye

Location The radiology unit at Ashford is located on the ground floor near to the pharmacy.

At St. Peter’s hospital, the radiology department is on Level 3 of the outpatients / departmental block. The ultrasound unit is on the third floor of Abbey Wing.
