Accessible Information Standard (AIS)
AIS states that there is a legal requirement for patients, service users, carers, and parents with a disability, impairment or sensory loss to receive accessible information and that they should:
|Be able to contact, and be contacted by services in accessible ways, e.g. via email.
|Receive information and correspondence in formats they can read and understand, e.g. in audio, braille, easy read or large print.
|Be supported by a communication professional at appointments if this is needed to support conversation, e.g. a British Sign Language interpreter or via SignVideo (see instructions below).
|Get support from health and care staff and organisations to communicate, e.g. to lip-read or use a hearing aid.
