Christian Morales is a Trainee Nursing Associate in his second year of studies on Swan ward

He said: “I was initially working with the porter/security department in the Trust, I was encouraged by friends in the Trust and family to pursue a Healthcare Support Worker role (HCSW). Once I had the opportunity to join Swan Ward as a HCSW, I was welcomed and provided with unrivalled support from the initial induction and ward; this made me fall in love with the role. With the support of everyone I have had the pleasure to work with and the HCSW Team, I gained confidence in my role and was always encouraged to try and pursue the apprenticeship role.

“I am currently in my second year of studies and apprenticeship. This is the last year of my apprenticeship to become a Nursing Associate. What I enjoy most about the role is the pursuit of knowledge and its application with the Trauma and Orthopaedic team. Understanding why we do what we do to promote the best person-centred care, practice and furthering my knowledge as I grow into my role.

“My advice to people who want to pursue a career in nursing/healthcare is to join through the apprenticeship scheme. This will provide you with support, clinical knowledge and experience whilst learning and developing within to the role and the team.”
