Donna Mathieson, Nursing Associate Emergency Department.
Donna said: “I was recruited via the vaccination hub after being furloughed from Virgin Atlantic. I then joined as a Healthcare Assistant, completed my care certificate and then applied to become a Trainee Nursing Associate, wanting a more stable career. Two years on I now have successfully completed the first part of the apprenticeship; I am a now fully qualified Nursing Associate working within the Emergency Department at St Peter’s. I am now in the process of applying for another apprenticeship through the Trust which will take my qualification up to a Registered Nurse within 18 months.
“I enjoy learning, I love attending university, but I also enjoy being part of the Emergency Department team and learning lots of skills from the registered nurses, Clinical practice educator team, and the ACPs.
“My advice to anyone thinking about it is DO IT! This is chance at another career; I am 42 with bills to pay. So going to university full time was never an option for me due to the fact that I have an 11-year boy and I need an income.”
