Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are delighted to announce that on the 22nd June we won two awards at the prestigious Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA) HR in Excellence Awards. These awards recognise and reward outstanding work in healthcare human resource management.
The first win for Team ASPH was the Award for Excellence in Employee Engagement - given to an organisation that has significantly enhanced patient care through improved staff engagement. For a number of years we have been working on ways to improve our staff engagement and in particular find an approach that enables staff to influence improvement in their work. We were given this award for the innovative work we have been doing through our ‘Be the Change’ programme, developed originally by a group of Junior Drs in February 2014, now embedded in our quality improvement culture. It provides staff with the opportunity to come forward with ideas for improvement, but also creates opportunities for front-line staff to become ‘Change Champions’ and to develop new skills in their roles.
The second award went to one of our Assistant Directors of HR, Lucy Purdy in the Guardian Jobs rising star category, which aims to recognise up-and-coming HR practitioners that are set for a bright future.
Lucy was nominated for this category by our Director of Workforce Transformation and Human Resources, Louise McKenzie, who commented, “Huge congratulations to Lucy on winning this award. It is easy to underestimate what a powerhouse Lucy is. Although softly spoken and unassuming, her personal impact and the contribution to our Trust in nine months is incredible.”
Louise continued to say, “I am overjoyed with our success at this year’s awards ceremony. I am so proud of our ‘Be the Change’ programme, how far it has spread and imbedded itself into the Trust, the huge improvements we continue to make every day which make a difference to our patients, and ultimately improve our staff’s experience of working at ASPH.”
