The Emergency Department (ED) at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust were delighted to host a visit by Professor Jonathan Benger (National Clinical Director for Urgent Care – NHS England) and his research team on Tuesday 24th October.
They have chosen Ashford and St Peter’s as 1 of 10 hospitals to take part in a research study looking at the implementation of a GP within the Urgent Care Centre. This new initiative has been directed by the National Services for Health Improvement (NHSI) and is to start at St Peter’s on 1st November.
On Tuesday Professor Benger talked to a mixed audience from across ED, Research and Development and Performance staff about the research and what it would entail. The research project will last for 12 months and will determine the impact and success of the GP new model of care. His presentation was followed by a tour of the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Centre by ED Clinical Lead Dr Sriram.
Dr Sriram said: “We are delighted and committed to be part of this 12 month research study here at Ashford and St Peter’s on GP streaming in the urgent care centre.”
