Members of staff from Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals came together to form Team STASHMO, (St Peter’s and Ashford Moustaches) in November, with the aim of growing the best moustache as possible throughout the month. Movember is a dedicated month of fundraising and awareness building for men’s health issues; focusing on research for testicular cancer, prostate cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.
Team STASHMO did themselves and the Trust proud with their array of moustaches and managed to raise over £6500 throughout the month, becoming the top team overall in the UK NHS and Emergency Services Challenge-a fantastic achievement. Chief Nurse, Sue Tranka presented certificates to the best moustache, the best attempt at growing a moustache, and the messiest moustache at celebratory ceremony on Friday 29th November.
Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr Mark MacGregor spearheaded the event at the Trust and says; ‘As the sun sets on Movember 2019, I would like to say many thanks to colleagues and friends of STASHMO for taking action on men’s health. We have probably all known men who have died too young from preventable medical causes, and suicide, and this month has been an opportunity to remember them too. Team STASHMO is currently ranked #42 nationally which I think is brilliant for a non-corporate group. With some MO-nificent rallying over the last week the team nudged way past the £5000 target with some ridiculously luxuriant growth and generous sponsorship. This is such a worthwhile cause and it has been inspirational to see some big names in the hospital proudly brush away self-conscious concerns and stand up proudly for men’s health’
