We are delighted to announce that ASPH have been shortlisted for three awards at this year’s Patient Experience Network National Awards (PENNA).
These Awards recognise best practice in patient experience across all facets of health and social care in the UK. After two years of virtual ceremonies, this year’s Patient Experience Network National Awards will be hosted in-person at the University of Birmingham on Wednesday 28th September 2022.
The first nomination is for the Environment of Care Award, for the Eternal Garden at St Peter’s Hospital. The Eternal Garden is only the third garden of this kind in the country and has been designed by award-winning garden and landscape designer, Rae Wilkinson. The garden consists of indoor and outdoor space for patients receiving end-of-life care to spend time with their loved ones recounting memories, and for colleagues to use the space to deliver difficult news and decompress following a challenging day.
The second nomination is for the Strengthening the Foundations Award and the final nomination is for the Using Insight for Improvement Award (subcategory – Staff) for Healthcare Plays performed at ASPH. The Healthcare plays were written by Playwright , Brian Daniels who was commissioned back in 2016 by the National Council for Palliative Care and funded by NHS England, to write three plays about end-of-life care based on real life stories, with the aim of providing professional development and powerful insight for healthcare staff.

It is fantastic to see these different initiatives that improve patient experience are being recognised nationally, and I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved and contributed to these very special projects.”
