We are delighted to announce that Ashford and St Peter's fantastic new midwifery led birth unit - The Abbey Birth Centre (ABC), opened to our new mums-to-be on the 5th of May the International Day of the Midwife.

This will be a unique NHS facility in the local area and offer an ideal 'home from home' setting for women seeking a natural and positive birth experience.

The centre will look and feel very different to a traditional labour ward, with care led by our friendly team of midwives who feel very passionately about promoting and supporting natural birth whenever possible.

With the first baby being delivered in our unique unit on the 6th May, Evie Olivia Allan at 13.39 weighing 7lbs and 2ozs, to proud new parents Debbie Weldon and Craig Allan from Cobham Surrey.

Evie's mum Debbie said, "It's been a fantastic experience the midwives have been brilliant, we couldn't fault it. The facilities are superb, we've felt extremely welcomed throughout our whole stay and the environment has been perfect, very calming and peaceful."
