Research Sister - Neonatal
Nicky first came to St. Peter's Hospital Neonatal Unit in 1992 as a newly qualified staff nurse, having completed a Bachelor of Nursing Degree and RGN training at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff. In 1995 she gained further specialist qualification in Neonatal Nursing.
Nicky took a career break for a move overseas but returned to Ashford & St. Peters as a bank nurse. She has been involved in the research taking place on NICU, with the neonatal team, looking at Probiotics in preterm babies and their value in prevention of infection.
Nicky recently took over the role of research nurse on NICU working with Dr. Peter Reynolds. Currently they are introducing SIFT (speed of increasing milk feeds) and MARBLE (magnetic resonance biomarkers in neonatal encephalopathy) to the neonatal unit. They are also planning to set up an in-house research study in the near future.
