Services provided by the department

The aim of Occupational Therapy is to promote and restore independence, health and well-being in people of all ages through using purposeful occupation as part of rehabilitation. Occupation is the meaningful use of activities, skills and life roles, which enable people to function purposely in their daily life. The empowerment of the service user is central to the design and delivery of their care.

The Occupational Therapy Department within the Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals Trust offer both inpatient and outpatient services.

Inpatient services are provided on all wards offering both acute and rehabilitation interventions in order to facilitate safe discharge. This includes specialist services for people with:

• Dementia
• Neurology
• Brain injury
• Those needing inpatient rehabilitation

Outpatient services specialise in Hand Therapy / rehabilitation and splinting. Conditions treated include:

• Carpal tunnel,
• De Quervains,
• OA / RA,
• Wrist and finger fractures,
• CVA upper limb rehabilitation / neuro splinting,
• RSI / tendonitis
• Any post surgical rehab / complications.

At Ashford, the Occupational Therapy department is on the ground floor of the clinical block.

The Occupational Therapy team are based on level 2 of the Outpatients / Departmental block at St. Peter’s Hospital.
