Coming into hospital
Being in hospital can be a difficult and sometimes a frightening experience. Every member of staff is committed to making your stay as comfortable and positive as possible.
Please let a member of staff know if you need privacy for prayer or other support with your spiritual needs.
A member of the Chaplaincy Team is always happy to see you, whether or not you belong to a particular faith or denomination.
Getting touch with a Chaplain
If you would like a visit from one of the Chaplaincy team please speak to a member of the Ward staff and ask them to get in touch with us on your behalf. Alternatively you can contact us directly by ringing 01932 723324, or by contacting the Switchboard on 01932 872000 and asking the operator to page the “on call” Chaplain.
A visit from your own Priest or Faith Leader …
If you do not have contact details then please let us know. One of the Chaplains can get in touch with your local faith representative for you.
A confidential chat about something that concerns you …
Your Ward Team will always be happy to talk with you but if you feel it would be helpful to speak with someone else a member of the Chaplaincy Team will be very happy to see you.
Prayer at a special time …
You may like a Chaplain to pray privately with you at your bedside, perhaps if you are due to have surgery, feeling particularly unwell, anxious or simply wish to say “thank you”. Please ask for a member of the Chaplaincy Team to visit.
The Sacrament of Holy Communion, Reconciliation or the Anointing of the Sick …
These and other forms of religious observance may be a very important part of your faith or tradition. The Chaplains can help you to worship at your bedside. A New Testament or another Scripture can be brought to you.
Blessing and Prayers for a loved one …
It may be that you are reading this as a relative or close friend of a patient who is very sick. Please let us know if you would like a Chaplain to visit them. In an emergency a Chaplain is normally available day or night.
Visiting our Multi-faith Centres
Both Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals have a Multi-faith Centre which is open daily. Each Centre has a Chapel, Multi-Faith Prayer Room, Quiet Room and an Ablutions Room.
Prayer mats and scriptures are available for your use. Service and Prayer times are shown on the notice boards.
People of faith and no faith are invited to make use of the Multi-faith Centres during their time in hospital. Our Multi-faith Centres are purposefully maintained as places of quietness and reflection, and there is an opportunity to pray and light a candle. Messages for the Chaplaincy team may also be left in each Multi-faith Centre.
The Ashford Hospital Multi-Faith Centre is close to the main Hospital Entrance.
The St. Peter’s Hospital Multi-Faith Centre is on level 3 In the Duchess of Kent wing.
An Invitation to Join Us
Services in the Ashford Hospital Centre are advertised regularly on the centre notice board.
United Services are held in the St. Peter’s Hospital Centre Chapel on the first and second Sundays of each month at 10.30am. On the first Sunday the service is broadcast to the wards by Hospital Radio Wey.
Festival services, Remembrance services and other occasional services are also advertised on the notice boards.
Members of the Chaplaincy Team can give you more details and, if you wish, arrange for you to attend one of our services or help you to listen to broadcast services on your radio.
Jumu’ah (Friday) Khutbah Prayers are observed in both Centres each Friday at 13.00 hours.
