Covid-busting nasal spray begins UK trials

The first UK clinical trials of a nasal spray proven to kill 99.9% of the coronavirus that causes Covid-19 will begin on January 11th at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in Surrey.

The SaNOtize Nitric Oxide Nasal Spray (NONS) is designed to kill the virus in the upper airways, preventing it from incubating and spreading to the lungs.

Our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team are doing all they can to ensure you can keep in touch with your family member if they are an inpatient at Ashford or St Peter’s Hospitals.

On Monday 1st March, we held our first-ever Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals (ASPH) New Year’s Honours List awards ceremony. Individuals and teams at the Trust were recognised for their hard work and effort with awards in categories such as ‘Passion for Excellence’, ‘Unsung Hero’ and ‘Inspiring Leader’, and all of which were nominated by colleagues at ASPH.

Major Temporary Changes to Site Traffic Management

As you may be aware we are currently constructing two new wards in the car park next to the Rowley Bristow Unit. This will necessitate a large number of very wide prefabricated sections being brought onto the Hospital grounds by lorries, each lorry will take up most of the width of the estate roads to get to its destination. Once at the building site the loads will be lifted into position by crane and only one lorry will attend the hospital at any one time.

Trust honour NHS colleagues with COVID Star People’s Medal and commemorative yearbook

In September, Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (ASPH) will thank and honour 5000 NHS colleagues, temporary workers and volunteers that have and continue to respond to the COVID pandemic, with a medal and commemorative yearbook. The COVID Star People’s Medal was the idea of Battle of Britain sculptor, Harry Gray, and is being made by apprentices in the old jewellery quarter of Birmingham.

Paediatric wards receive a bear-y special delivery!

The paediatric wards at St Peter’s Hospital have received a first delivery of 90 Mood Bears which were donated by members of the public through a fundraiser, launched by Christmas website ‘Jolly Festive’. These bears will be given to the children and young person patients in the hospital, as well as the siblings and children of long-stay patients during the festive season.
