A pregnant lady in a birthing pool

What is hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing uses antenatal education, self-hypnosis, relaxation, massage and breathing techniques to help release any fear or tension you may have around birthing your baby.

Discover how the mind and body can work together to help you gain control over your own labour. These methods can be used to help you to achieve a calm, natural and often drug free birth.

Hypnobirthing can be used to achieve a positive birth experience in any setting; on labour ward, the birth centre or at a homebirth.

What to expect

Classes run twice a month on a Saturday from 9am to 3.30pm in our Parent Education Room in Abbey Wing. Refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits) will be provided during the breaks, you will however need to bring your own lunch on the day.

There will be a maximum of 7 couples in a session and you will be provided with a Hypnobirthing handbook and relaxation audio worth £12.99. The course will cover a range of breathing and relaxation exercises, massage and practical skills for labour and birth. It is important to bring a birth partner with you, so they can learn the techniques too.

We recommend joining the course from 28-34 weeks of pregnancy, so please book early as the courses are very popular. This allows plenty to time to practice and get to grips with the breathing and relaxation techniques before your labour beings.

How to book

The course costs £150 per couple, reservation is Free on Eventbrite and payment should be made over the telephone to our cashier’s office once you have reserved your place. Further details will be emailed at the time of reservation.
