At the tea party

Patients on the Senior Adult Medical Services (SAMS) Wards were surprised and delighted when healthcare workers laid on a Valentine’s Day tea party complete with the swooning notes of classic love songs which reverberated through the ward during the afternoon.

Asma Bawa, Holly Ward Clerk, said “The tea parties are a communal gathering for our patients, promoting our philosophy of encouraging mobility and ability! Events like this support our wider efforts to get patients dressed and out of bed wherever possible. This really helps them get back to normal, promoting a quick recovery and of course, leaves them smiling”.

The foldaway tables and china tea set were purchased after a team on the ward bid for them during the hospitals annual ‘Dragons Den’ event. The event, inspired by the television programme of the same name, provides the opportunity for staff to present their ideas to the Executive Team, who take on the role of the dragons, and pitch for additional funding to purchase equipment they feel would benefit patients whilst in hospital and improve team working processes.

Chief Operating Officer, James Thomas, was delighted to see so many people get involved; he says; “The Dragons Den event is a valuable way for us to engage staff and ensure they have the resources to deliver our vision and provide an outstanding experience and best outcome for patients. The tea party was just one of many events this team has held and they are a resounding success for patients, relatives, staff and support workers”.
