We are delighted to announce that following a competitive recruitment process, Jay Dungeni has been appointed as Chief Nursing Officer at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals and is due to join the Trust in January 2025.
Jay is currently Deputy Chief Nurse and also Executive Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He has worked in the NHS for over 25 years, initially as a health care assistant before qualifying as an adult general nurse in 2001. His first student placement was at Ashford Hospital, before specialising in trauma and orthopaedics at Hillingdon Hospital.
Jay brings a wealth of nursing and operational experience, including as a passionate advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion for the benefit of patients and staff. He currently chairs the CNO England Ethnic Minorities Advisory Collaborative, working with fellow nursing and midwifery leaders to advise on issues affecting staff from the global majority working in the health and social care sector.
Jay says: “I’m looking forward to taking up my new role, and it will be exciting to return to Ashford Hospital where my nursing career began. I want to build on the Trust’s strong commitment to improving the experiences of patients and staff. I will work closely with our nurses, midwives and allied health professionals at the Trust and leaders in our partner organisations to achieve this. I look forward to meeting colleagues over the coming months.”
Katie Fisher, Interim Chief Executive at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals says: “I look forward to welcoming Jay to Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals. Jay will make a great addition to the Trust’s Board and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and extensive experience which will be invaluable to us.”
