Child Playing

When developing the new Children and Young Person’s Outpatient department at Ashford Hospital, we wanted to create a space that provided a calming environment that eases any anxieties felt by our younger patients.

Thanks to the generosity of the Ashford Hospital League of Friends, we have installed an interactive sensory projector in the waiting area of the department which will help to provide much-needed distraction for some of our younger patients.

The projector is loaded with a number of interactive games or soothing soundscapes to help children and families during their time in the waiting room and has been installed as part of the trust’s Healing Arts programme.

Keith O’Toole, Ward Manager for the Children and Young Person’s wards, said: “From the moment the first child played with the new projector it created giggles and laughter. Parents were just as excited as the children, and it quickly became evident that this piece of equipment was a big hit! Not only does it provide enjoyment and play with a mixture of lights and colours, we found it also has sounds like running water or farmyard noises. I’m sure children - and parents - will have many hours of fun. Many thanks to the League of Friends for supporting us and providing such a wonderful piece of equipment.”
