Celebrating South Asian Heritage Month

South Asian Heritage Month (18 July - 17 August) is an opportunity for us to recognise, honour, and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of people with heritage from South Asian countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, and the Maldives.

The 2025 theme, “Roots to Routes”, encourages staff and patients alike to share their lived experiences - highlighting the diversity that strengthens our trust and the NHS as a whole. South Asian colleagues have played a central role in the NHS since its founding, and their continued contributions across clinical and support services are integral to the care we provide every day.

To celebrate South Asian Heritage Month, we would like to share a Podcast where Krishma Gola and Bhagyashree Nakum share their experiences of working in the NHS as people of South Asian heritage, which we also shared at our launch event in the Lecture Theatre in Ashford. We hope that this will foster understanding, inclusion, and respect - key values that guide our work at ASPH.

The month is also a time to reflect on the challenges faced by minority communities and to reaffirm our commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. By sharing stories and celebrating heritage, we aim to build a more inclusive environment where every member of staff feels seen, valued, and supported.
