Macmillan Cancer Support have invested £1.9m into a new cancer support centre that will be located within Ashford Hospital in Surrey.
The building works are well underway. So far, we’ve seen the site being cleared, preparation work for the concrete base to be installed. Steelworks providing the frame and sturdy structure for the new building with the roof being added just before Christmas, making the building ‘weather tight’, which means the roof will keep the inside of the dry for the rest of the internal works to be completed, just in time before all the torrential rain.
Concrete stand ups were installed to support the external walls, doors and windows into the courtyard at the rear of the building to provide structural support and protect against water entering.
Essential fire-proofing has been completed. The frames for the skylights are now on the roof and the insulation has arrived and will be installed shortly. In addition to this there are preparation works taking place to build the floor.
We are looking forward to the building being completed in the next few months, when the building will be handed over to the trust for soft furnishings etc. before the centre opens to the public.
We have recruited 10 volunteers, who will be able to provide holistic advice and support to our cancer patients and their families. In addition to these, we have also have one complimentary therapist who will be offering complimentary therapies to our cancer patients to support their cancer journey.
We are getting very excited as we get closer to completing this building and being able to provide this much needed resource to our cancer patients and their families. We will be posting updates every fortnight on our social media channels, as well as on our website:
